we're checking drains to prepare for storm

We’re preparing for the storm. Our public works department will be inspecting drains, trying to make sure that they are not clogged. If you have experienced flooding in the past and want me to alert the public works department of drains that need inspection please e mail me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com.  We will be working hard to minimize flooding possibilities.
Even with inspections – it’s impossible to prevent flooding when there are heavy rains or hurricanes.

The National Hurricane Center continues to issue Advisories on newly-formed Tropical Storm Arthur off the Florida East Coast.  It is forecast to intensify to Hurricane status Thursday but remain offshore.  There is still some uncertainty with the track of this system; however, official track forecasts continue to suggests a turn to the northeast toward the Carolina coastline before gradually accelerating northeast off the Mid-Atlantic well-southeast of the Long Island.

Meanwhile, a cold front will affect our region Thursday-Friday at the same time TS Arthur is re-curving.  Tropical moisture will stream northward and interact with the cold front.  This increases the threat for heavy rainfall mainly Thursday afternoon into Friday morning. The Rip Current risk will be high for the front end of the July 4th holiday weekend based on the track of the system...with high surf and rough ocean/inlet conditions likely as well.
