An Innes Road homeowner contacted Scarsdale patrol last Wednesday after she noted that a Kees van Dongen painting had been removed from her living room wall.
According to reports, the complainant last recalled seeing the painting, valued at $10,000, on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
In addition to theft, property damage was reportedly inflicted to an antique, marble-topped burl walnut sideboard server situated underneath the painting. The perpetrator, in an attempt to pry open the center lock to gain access to silverware, had broken the $10,000 piece of furniture's latch. The complainant was unaware whether any silverware had been removed from the server, as she was unable to open the main compartment.
Police checked the home's exterior and did not see any signs of forced entry. It was noted that the home is currently on the market, and had been shown by appointment on several dates the previous week.
