Greenburgh to Swear In New Police Chief Chris McNerney Wednesday

Greenburgh Police Capt. Chris McNerney will be sworn in as the department’s new chief during a ceremony Wednesday evening at Town Hall.

McNerney, who led the department’s Detective Division since 2009, is replacing retiring Chief Joseph DeCarlo, who is leaving at the end of the month.

“We thank the Chief for his dedication, hard work and professionalism,” said Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner in a statement about DeCarlo, a 36-year veteran of the force who was chief for the past four years. “Crime, under his watch, has been at historic low levels.”

Wednesday’s ceremony, which will be held at 7:30 p.m., will be officiated by Judge Les Adler, a former Town Councilman. The public is welcome, and following the swearing in ceremony the Town Board will hold its regular meeting.

McNerney has a Juris Doctorate degree from Pace University School of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree (Magna Cum Laude) from Mercy College.

Feiner said McNerney’s experience at several levels within the department makes him a strong choice to succeed DeCarlo.

“He is well qualified to continue the Police Departments tradition of excellent leadership,” said Feiner. “He is also involved in local community activities.”
