UPDATE: Hartsdale Rocked by Explosion, Should Have Power by 9PM
Streets should reopen to traffic around 5:30 p.m., officials said.
Con Ed expects to restore power to the almost 1,000 customers who lost it after a manhole exploded in Hartsdale at 2:30 p.m. today, said Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner.
Traffic, which was shut down from Central Avenue to Hartsdale Village, should start back up around 5:30 p.m., Feiner said.
"Con Ed, the town, fire departments --everyone worked cooperatively," he said. "We used buses to provide heat for residents (mostly older people) who needed temporary shelter. And did a decent job communicating with subscribers of our e list via e mail. We had arranged for overnight shelter for those who wanted it—if power would not have been restored tonight. I think the town was prepared to deal with this emergency."

A manhole exploded in Hartsdale this afternoon and police are fearful that more explosions could occur, reported Westchester News12.
Traffic was shut down from Central Avenue to Hartsdale Village after the 2:30 p.m. explosion.
According to the Consolidated Edison power outage map, 917 customers are without power. Con Ed's estimate for restoring power is 10 p.m.
"Residents are being told to make other arrangements for tonight," News12 reported. "The Greenburgh police chief says buses are acting as warming shelters, and emergency power stations are set up for those with medical equipment. One resident told News 12 it 'sounded like someone dropped a bomb.' No injuries have been reported yet."
