Mount Vernon Man Found Guilty of Murder

A Mount Vernon man faces a maximum sentence of life in prison after a jury found him guilty first-degree murder today.

Dameon Bodie, 21, was found guilty of murdering 44-year-old Richard Reid in Mount Vernon on the night of Sept. 2, 2011.

The incident happened at about 11:15 p.m., near Franklin Avenue and Madison Street in the City of Mount Vernon, Bodie was walking with his girlfriend toward her when he encountered the Reid. Bodie’s girlfriend and Reid share a child.

Reid and Bodie got into a fight. During the fight, Bodie slashed Reid multiple times on the body, mostly in the neck area. Reid died as a result of his injuries.

The defendant slashed the victim multiple times about the body, specifically the neck area, resulting in the victim’s death. Bodie fled the scene and was driven to Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle.

Police arrived at the scene after a neighbor called 911. Bodie’s girlfriend tried to to stop Reid from bleeding before emergency officials arrived.

Later, New Rochelle Police were called to Sound Shore hospital after Bodie, who used a fake name, claimed he was the victim of a robbery.

Subsequently, New Rochelle Police learned that a homicide involving the defendant had occurred earlier in Mount Vernon and an investigation began.

Bodie was arrested by Mount Vernon Police on September 3, 2011.

Bodie faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced on July 31, 2012.

Assistant District Attorney John O’Rourke, Chief of the Major Case Bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Alexis Celestin of the Narcotics and Firearms Bureau, are prosecuting the case.
