Neighbor Crashes Car Into Irvington Home [VIDEO]

The man thought he was stepping on the brake instead of the gas when his Honda Civic struck a residence at 18 Park Ave.

Emergency personnel swarmed Park Avenue in Irvington Friday morning after a car smashed into the front steps of a local residence.

According to Irvington Police, a neighbor of 18 Park Ave. backed out of his driveway, pulled out onto the road then accidently stepped on the gas instead of the break causing his Honda Civic to crash into the front steps of the home and hang over a ledge, putting the car halfway in the home’s driveway around 8:56 a.m.

The driver and residents who were inside the home were not injured. The crash caused a ruptured gas main, which the Irvington Fire Department turned off. Con Edison was also on the scene, and shut down a nearby main in the street as a safety precaution.

The fire department used a crane and straps to lift the car off of the ledge and place it in the driveway. The fronts steps had to be dismantled since the crash made it structurally unsound.

Police are investigating the incident as an accident.
