The public may never know the outcome of the Rye hazing case against three Rye High School seniors after their appearence in Rye City Court today. Prosecutors reduced the felony assault charges against Sean Pinson, 17, Tristan Scragg, 17 and Max Meyerson, 16, to misdemeanor assault charges in anticipation of a possible plea deal in Rye City Court Tuesday morning, according to the Westchester County District Attorney’s office.
The three teens involved in the case will now be treated as youthful offenders, which means proceedings are closed to the public.
The teens still face the original misdemeanor counts of first-degree hazing and second-degree unlawful imprisonment.
The charges stem from the allegation that the three took at least two incoming freshmen victims from the Rye Free Reading Room to the Marshlands Conservancy on June 1 and “paddled” them on June 1. The incident involved a large piece of lumber and caused bruising and other injuries to their buttocks and legs.
