Scammer Tries To Rip Off Scarsdale Woman

The "won a prize" scam did not work on this savvy, Scarsdale resident.

This would-be con artist called a Scarsdale woman 40 times, attempting to get her to fall for a phony prize scam.

The Windsor Road resident reported to Scarsdale Police that the unwanted phone calls started in November 2012.  The scammer attempted to get her to send money via money order in order to claim a "prize" she won, according to the SPD report.

Finally in February, the Scarsdale woman told the conman to stop calling or she would contact police. He called another five times since, she told SPD.

SPD called the number the scammer left and were hung up on. Police called a second time, and the con artist said, "'I'm not the one calling the (expletive) lady.'"

Police are continuing to investigate the case.
