Scarsdale Firefighters Raising Funds For Cancer Society

The SFD is holding two fundraisers for the American Cancer Society's Westchester division.

The Scarsdale Fire Department is pitching in to raise funds for cancer research in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Tomorrow, the Uniformed Firefighters Association is hosting a golf outing at Saxon Woods Golf Course. (The outing is weather dependent.)

Putts for Pink, in its second year, will raise money for breast cancer research. All donations raised Friday will benefit the American Cancer Society.

The golf tournament is the first of a two-part fundraiser, according to Scarsdale Fire Union President Brian Robinson.

The SFD raises funds for several causes including hosting the Ronald McDonald House Carnival and participating in Fill The Boot. The breast cancer fundraising is personal to Robinson and others on the SFD–whose lives have been impacted by cancer.

"My mother-in-law had breast cancer," Robinson said.

On Monday, October 1, several Scarsdale firefighters will be selling pink t-shirts to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

From 6:00 a.m. through about 9:30 a.m., the firefighters will be manning tables at the Scarsdale Train Station, selling pink t-shirts in children's, men's and women's sizes. The shirts range from $12-$15, Robinson said.

The two events raised over $5,000 last year, he said.
