Scarsdale Man Falls Victim To Craigslist Scam

Excerpts from the Scarsdale Police Log. The following information was supplied by the Scarsdale Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

There was no Canadian vacation for this Scarsdale man.

A Nelson Road resident reported to Scarsdale Police on September 4 that he was scammed out of $1,100 on Craigslist while trying to book a vacation rental.

According to the SPD police report, the resident said he and his family used the website to find a condo rental in Toronto. After wiring $1,105 to the condo-owners bank account, the owner contacted him to say he had not received the money, according to the report.

After checking with this bank to confirm that the funds had been wired, he contacted the condo-owner to complete the booking confirmation. The owner then stopped all communication with the Scarsdale resident, according to the SPD report.

Both the Scarsdale PD and the Lawrenceville (Canada) PD are investigating the case.

If this is happening in a community like Scarsdale, then as a taxpayer I am irritated. Where are allRead More the taxes going if teachers are paying for their own classroom supplies? There has to be some degree of accountability regarding our tax dollars. We are the highest-taxed county in the nation and we can't afford notebooks and post-it notes? As a community member, I am not going to "lend a hand." I already do that with my tax dollars.
