Scarsdale PD, Fire, Bomb Squad Investigate Suspicious Device

Scarsdale Fire and Police departments investigated "an odd looking device" on Butler Road.

A strange looking device left on top of a Con Edison traffic cone on Butler Road caused quite the scare in Scarsdale. Scarsdale Police, Scarsdale Fire and the Westchester County Bomb Squad all responded to the scene to inspect the device.

On January 14, an employee of 14 Butler Road spotted "an odd looking device on the corner of the property" and called Scarsdale Police to report it. The employee who discovered the homemade package said he first thought it was left by "kids just messing around," but wanted to be sure.

The device, left next to a large tree, was made up of a "plastic tube, newspaper that was stuffed inside, and two small CO2 canisters," according to the SPD report. "Matches and charred pieces of the tube were found next to the device."
