An alleged thief broke into a Scarsdale home on November 23 after ransacking the residence and swiping over $4,000 worth of jewelry and cash.

According to Scarsdale Police, the residents returned to their Harvest Drive home to find a glass door leading to their family room had been shattered.

In the master bedroom, the couple found their dressers and drawers had been ransacked.

The thief stole a $250 gold watch, a $2,200 gold necklace, a $2,000 pair of gold and diamond earrings, a $200 gold bracelet, about $200 in foreign currency and destroyed the $1,500 glass door, according to SPD.

After investigating the scene, police discovered that five automatic, outdoor, light bulbs were unscrewed. The home alarm was not set at the time of the break-in.

If this is happening in a community like Scarsdale, then as a taxpayer I am irritated. Where are allRead More the taxes going if teachers are paying for their own classroom supplies? There has to be some degree of accountability regarding our tax dollars. We are the highest-taxed county in the nation and we can't afford notebooks and post-it notes? As a community member, I am not going to "lend a hand." I already do that with my tax dollars.
