Scarsdale Woman Latest Victim of IRS Scam

Excerpts from the Scarsdale Police Log. The following information was supplied by the Scarsdale Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Kent Road resident was the latest victim of the nationwide "IRS Scam."

About three weeks ago, she had received a letter from the IRS telling her there was a problem with "her overpayment refund," according to the Scarsdale Police Department report. Once she called the IRS, she was told the issue was resolved and the overpayment had already been applied.

The resident told Scarsdale Police that on October 14, she received a letter from the IRS saying she had been a victim of identity fraud. An alleged ID thief had filed a second tax return, using her social security number, attempting to claim her tax refund.
