Frederick Brenyah was convicted May 1 following a jury trial.

A Yonkers man faces up to four years in state prison after being found guilty of engaging in a criminal sex act with an inmate at the Taconic Correctional Facility in Bedford Hills.

Jurors found Federick Brenyah, 63, of Yonkers, guilty of third-degree criminal sex (a felony,) third-degree attempted rape and official misconduct, both misdemeanors.

Brenyah, a 22-year-veteran corrections officer at the prison, for sexual contact with a prisoner at the jail in Bedford Hills.

At the time, he was arraigned before Judge Kevin Quaranta of the Town of Bedford Court and was taken to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $3,500 bail.

In her press released about the conviction, Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore said Brenyah first encountered the 56-year-old inmate with whom he had sex on Sept. 19, 2010.

Brenyah asked the woman, who was on her way to find an iron for her prison uniform, to come back with her prison ID. On her way back, the female victim passed an officer’s lounge which contained a bathroom for corrections officers. Brenyah pulled her inside and stood her up against a radiator in the bathroom, briefly engaged in sexual intercourse and then engaged in oral sex, according to the D.A.'s office.

Frederick Brenyah was charged with felony rape in the case because it is unlawful in New York state for a corrections officer to engage in sexual contact with an inmate. His sentencing will take place  on July 10.

Assistant District Attorney Fredric I. Green, Chief of the Sex Crimes Bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Joyce Miller, also of the Sex Crimes Bureau, prosecuted the case.
