UPDATE, 2:15 p.m.: Jeff Thompson, a spokesman for Archbishop Stepinac  High School, said Amanda Iles had only worked at Stepinac during the 2012-2013 school year and that the sexual encounters took place after she resigned from the school.

Iles announced to school officials in the spring that she was resigning at the end of the year and moving to California to pursue other opportunities.

Authorities said the incident took place between June 11 and July 14. The last day of classes at Stepinac for the 2012-2013 school year was May 31 and the last day of school was June 7, according to Thompson.

The school released this statement:

Stepinac recently learned of the possibility of an alleged improper relationship involving a former faculty member and a student. The teacher, who was employed for the 2012-13 school year, resigned at the end of school last June. The relationship allegedly occurred this past summer after her employment had ended. We are deeply concerned with matters involving the well-being of our students who are our top priority. Stepinac has and will continue to fully cooperate with any investigation into this matter.

Original Story: A 27-year-old woman who taught in the religious department of Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains earlier this year was arrested Wednesday and charged with raping a 14-year-old male student.

Iles, who no longer works at the school and has been living in California, surrendered to Eastchester police Wednesday morning.

The encounters were allegedly uncovered by the victim’s parents, who then contacted Yonkers police. Upon further investigation, police discovered that the incident allegedly took place at a location in Eastchester.

“As a teacher, this defendant was in a position of trust and authority,” Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore said in a statement. “In becoming involved with a student incapable of consent, she abused that privilege. Multi-jurisdictional detective work by police quickly led to the identification and arrest of the defendant.”

Iles was arraigned with bail set at $25,000 cash or $75,000 bond. She is scheduled to reappear in court on Dec. 4.

Iles faces a maximum sentence of seven years in state prison if convicted.

Second Deputy District Attorney Audrey Stone, Chief of the Special Prosecutions Division, is prosecuting the case.

Note: Arrests do not indicate convictions.
