Scarsdale's Assemblywoman Amy Paulin is the new chair of the Assembly Standing Committee on Energy.
Paulin, (D-88th District,) shared the news on her Facebook page today.
"Good news today, I was named to Chair the NYS Assembly Committee on Energy," she wrote on her page. "Looking forward to working on this project for a multitude of reasons, including finding better energy options for New York and making sure we don't have delays in getting our power back if another storm like Sandy hits."
Assembly Speaker of the House Sheldon Silver made the announcement today. Paulin, a Scarsdale resident, replaces outgoing Energy Committee Chair Kevin Cahill.
According to the announcement, the assemblywoman previously chaired the Committee on Children and Families and the Committee on Libraries. Currently, she is a member of the Committee on Education, the Committee on Higher Education and the Committee on Health.
Paulin, along with other local reps, advocated for more resources when Hurricane Sandy hit, leaving many folks in Scarsdale in the dark for two weeks.
“The length of time many people in the area were without power was unacceptable,” Paulin said in a statement. “We can’t let that happen again.”
