Crane Road Construction To Cause Detours, Closures

The following information is from Traffic Engineer Kevin Roseman of the Westchester County Dept. of Public Works and Transportation and Greenburgh Police Chief Joseph DeCarlo: 

Construction on the Crane Road Bridge is continuing through winter with the project approximately 15% completed and on schedule. Due to Metro-North Railroad requirements, night work will begin on Monday Night February 11, 2013 and continue, weeknights only, for approximately two weeks. 

The night work is required to install large (25’ high) concrete forms for the North Abutment Walls adjacent to the eastern side of the railroad tracks. Work hours will be from approximately 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM.  During weekdays (7:00 AM to 3:30 PM) work will also continue at the project site. 

During this two, week-night period, for approximately five week-nights, Southbound East Parkway, between Crane Road and Christie Place, will be closed due to the need to place a crane in the roadway. As a result of the crane placement and closure of Southbound East Parkway, the following closures and detours will be required during these five week-nights only:

• Close the Southbound Exit 12 Ramp from the Bronx River Parkway to Crane Road;

• Motorists directed to Exit 10 – Harney Road

• Close the Northbound Exit 12 Ramp from the Bronx River Parkway to Crane Road;

• Motorists directed to Exit 10 – Harney Road

• Close Westbound Crane Road between Chase Road and East Parkway; and
• Close SB East Parkway between Crane Road and Christie Place.

• A Detour will be posted utilizing Chase Road and Christie Place.

Ramp closures on the Bronx River Parkway will begin at approximately 8:00 PM and end by 6:00 AM.  Local street closures (Southbound East Parkway and Westbound Crane Road) will run from approximately 9:00 PM and conclude by 6:00 AM. 

Weather permitting, the closures and detours are scheduled on the following nights:

• Wednesday February 13;
• Thursday February 14;
• Friday February 15;
• Monday February 18; and
• Tuesday February 19.

At all times Northbound East Parkway, Eastbound Crane Road and the Northbound Exit 12 Entrance Ramp to the Bronx River Parkway will remain open.

In March, the same two weeknight operation will be repeated to remove the concrete forms (including an additional 5 weeknights of closures and detours.) Notification will be provided when this work is scheduled.

Installation of 12 pre-fabricated concrete beams over the Metro-North Railroad is projected for April/May. This will also require night work with limited closures and detours.
