Greenburgh Town Supervisor Wants Local Gun Range Closed Down

"This is not whether you are for gun control or against gun control, this is about gun safety," Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner told CBSNewYork.

The fragment of a bullet fired at a gun range off Ardsley Road in Greenburgh recently grazed an unsuspecting woman in the leg while she was at a condominium complex next door, and now Town Supervisor Paul Feiner wants the range closed.

In an interview with CBSNewYork, Feiner says the issue is not about gun rights.

"This is not whether you are for gun control or against gun control, this is about gun safety," Feiner told CBSNewYork. "I don’t think a gun range should be located in a residential neighborhood."

The gun range in question, the Westchester Police Revolver and Rifle League, has been around for more than 60 years and is run by active and retired police officers. The incident occurred last month, according to The Journal News, and the bullet fragment was tested to make sure where it came from.

Feiner says that ballistics determined the fragment came from the range, and when he sought to find information from the state about what could be done, he was surprised to learn that the state doesn't regulate gun ranges, he said.

The private range temporarily shut down while the matter was being investigated, according to The Journal News.

"I was stunned," Feiner told CBSNewYork. "There's no inspections, they don't need any approvals."

Should NY regulate gun ranges, or was this an isolated incident that does not require new laws? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.
