Popham Road Bridge Closure Tonight

The Popham Road Bridge in Scarsdale will be closed from Monday night through Tuesday night and from Tuesday night through Wednesday morning this week.

Drivers may need to plan around two nights of road closures this week in Scarsdale.

Starting tonight (Monday, November 12) at 9:00 p.m., the Popham Road  Bridge will be closed to traffic from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13.

The bridge will close again at 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night through 6:00 a.m. Wednesday night, according to an email announcement.

The intersection of Popham Road, Scarsdale Avenue and East Parkway, along with the intersection of Depot Place and Garth Road, are slated to be closed on the same dates and times due to construction work.

"Once this work begins, vehicles will not be able to enter or leave Depot Place," the village announcement states.

The road and bridge closures are part of the ongoing construction work. This week's work will include milling and paving.

Here is the detour route provided by the village:

Westbound Popham Road vehicular traffic will be detoured south on School Lane. Motorists are to follow the posted detour from School Lane to Ardsley Road (west side of the bridge.) Eastbound Popham Road vehicular traffic will be detoured from Ardsley Road south to Old Army Road.

Motorists are to follow the posted detour from Old Army Road to Popham Road (east side of the Popham Road Bridge.) Southbound East Parkway traffic will be detoured east on Christie Place south on Chase Road and north on Popham Road.

If this is happening in a community like Scarsdale, then as a taxpayer I am irritated. Where are allRead More the taxes going if teachers are paying for their own classroom supplies? There has to be some degree of accountability regarding our tax dollars. We are the highest-taxed county in the nation and we can't afford notebooks and post-it notes? As a community member, I am not going to "lend a hand." I already do that with my tax dollars.
