‪Syrian Wants Negotiations Not Weapons‬ Edward Shalsh, a young accountant living in Damascus, Syria spoke via Skype with independent journalist Julie Ashcraft, who is based in New York. Shalsh gave his opinion of Rep. Eliot Engel's (D-NY) plan to give weapons to fighters in Syria: "We know Representative Engel is a strong supporter of Israel, so he would be against terrorist attacks on buses. More than a hundred people were killed last Thursday by terrorist bombs in one of the most crowded areas in Damascus, during rush hour when people were coming home from work and students were coming home from schools and colleges. In the beginning of the uprising, people were trying to get more freedom and democracy. But now most of the Free Syrian Army are mercenaries and terrorists from other countries. If they overthrow Syria, they may try to overthrow Israel later. Supporting terrorism is illegal under US laws. If you give money and weapons to the Free Syrian Army now, you are supporting terrorism. Also, all this bombing and the looting of archaelogical sites are destroying human history. So please do not introduce legislation to give weapons to the Free Syrian Army terrorists who are killing innocent Syrian working people and students. Please ask John Kerry to make a real conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov about a peaceful solution. Maybe a deal can be made that will protect Syria and Israel from wars. Israel does not need a new Iraq next to her boundaries."
