RNC Winds Down; Assured Romney, Odd Eastwood

A final dispatch from the Republican National Convention in Tampa Bay, FL

A week of GOP speeches and furor—all unfettered by —came to a close Thursday evening with Mitt Romney officially accepting the Republican Party's nomination to challenge Barack Obama come November.

Romney's remarks, delivered with a personal touch not overly common for the once-Massachusetts governor, dealt with both the abstract and specific. Romney praised Americans' optimism, and spotlighted the vexation many citizens feel when the gasoline counter hits $50.

Romney was preceded by speaker and host-of-sort Marco Rubio, Florida's U.S. senator. And before Rubio came a surprise speaker, Hollywood's Clint Eastwood.

The western-movie tough guy delivered a quick, folksy chat with an invisible Obama, pegging the president for hypocrisy and failure. But the 82-year-old icon seemed less-than-eloquent, at times stammering.

Local delegates from Rockland, Westchester and Putnam weighed in from Tampa Bay over the course of the week, sounding off on stirring speeches and a energetic atmosphere.

Sen. Greg Ball (R-Westchester/Putnam) , simultaneously updating his Facebook page with photos from the function.

Vincent Reda, Rockland County's chairman of the Republican Committee, .

Meanwhile, on the homefront, Rep. Nita Lowey(D-Rockland/Westchester) and U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) stopped by Nyack, standing in front of the camera and .

"[Paul Ryan] is just wrong," Lowey said.

Check in next week as Patch chats with local Democrates heading to the Democratic Nation Convention in Charlotte, NC. New Rochelle mayor Noam Bramson, Rep. Kenneth Zebrowksi (D-Rockland) and a host of others will check in with their thoughts and opinions.

I'm just busting!! Common Cause on Romney and NOBAMA2012. And Bjorn, the sites are not that bad. facts are facts. no matter what or how one feels, things are happening and they are not good things - we are going back to an age of darkness (knowledge and rights) - that is NOT good. MObama is accelerating that age. HE is no good. He must be fired. Take off the bias blinders and see things from others' perspectives - not good. I'll push American Exceptionalism globally. In this American's view: it's my way or the highway.

I'll tell you something about BareNakedIslam.com - great beheading and stoning videos - right from Dar al Islam. Even little kids are shown cutting off apostate and kuffar heads. It's raw stuff. educational. keeps making one want to puke - still get heaves thinking about some of that stuff, but facts are facts. ps: You play well....but not enough to overcome.

Dan, things do happen, but when you gather only one kind of evidence and connect only a certain kind of dots, you get a dead-wrong answer. To oppose Obama's policies is one thing, to make him out to be some kind of dark lord with a hidden agenda to destroy all that is good is just crazy-talk, sorry. I could probably spend an afternoon reading up on white supremacist militias in the US and make a case that they were about to take over the country and send all non-whites to concentration camps. Just as crazy.

Hey Bjorn: nice country you got there! your authorities are cooperating to return a 28 year old convert from Islam to Saudi Arabia? WTF? Glad you are NOT a US Citizen able to vote here. Here look up some more arabic terms: taqiyyah, tawriya, kitman. You practice all three! and why am I not surprised? http://sheikyermami.com/2012/09/11/sweden-in-the-the-service-of-sowdi-barbaria-islam/

and you should all listen to the interview with Rev. Jeremiah Wright, discussing Obama's Muslim faith and his request to Wright to help him find his Christian side. Wright opines MObama never really found his Christian faith and Wright was skeptical of how much Islam MObama shed. Just google the interview with Philip Klein - it's on the web. dopes.
