Scarsdale Board of Education Meeting and Budget Hearing Tonight

The Scarsdale public schools' Board of Ed meeting and hearing starts at 8:00 p.m.

The is meeting tonight at 8:00 p.m.–the last meeting before the district budget vote and election.

The School District election and budget vote is scheduled for Tuesday, May 15. Scarsdale voters will be heading to the polls in the middle school gym from 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. to make their decisions on the school district's budget and BOE members.

Next Tuesday, voters will be casting votes on a budget resolution on the proposed of $141,790,579. Lewis Leone, Jr., and Mary Beth Gose are both on the ballot to fill two School Board Member slots, with terms expiring in 2015.

Tonight, the BOE is holding a budget hearing and business meeting, both at 8:00 p.m. at the high school.

Tonight's agenda includes a quarterly report of the student activities fund; disposition of paper/challenge ballots for May 16; discussion of the BOE meeting calendar for 2012-2013; discussion of the 2013-2014 budget calendar; and an acceptance of a $1,000 gift to the high school to offset the cost of prom transportation.

If this is happening in a community like Scarsdale, then as a taxpayer I am irritated. Where are allRead More the taxes going if teachers are paying for their own classroom supplies? There has to be some degree of accountability regarding our tax dollars. We are the highest-taxed county in the nation and we can't afford notebooks and post-it notes? As a community member, I am not going to "lend a hand." I already do that with my tax dollars.
