Scarsdale Mayor: Budget, Meeting With Con Ed, Revaluation

Tonight, the Village Board of Trustees is meeting with Con Ed officials.

Mayor Miriam Levitt Flisser addressed the Village Board of Trustees at a public meeting Tuesday night. The following is a copy of her remarks. All of the following meetings mentioned are open to the public.

The Village Board has a packed schedule for the next two weeks.

We began the budget process on January 18, with the initial consideration of Fees and Charges, including Recreation Department fees such as summer camp, sports and other activities. We will consider input concerning preliminary budget proposals which have created an apparent shortfall for the next upcoming fiscal year (not for the current budget period, which is on target, and has overrun costs for Hurricane Sandy that are expected to be re-imbursed by FEMA.)

Specific budgetary proposals for the upcoming year will be presented by Department Heads at full-day budget hearings to be held on February 6 beginning at 10:30 a.m., and to be followed by further deliberations and recommendations from the Board on Thursday February 7.

We are meeting with Con Edison officials this Wednesday night, Jan 23, to discuss improvements that we had previously proposed in 2011, but which were not acted upon by Con Ed, leaving Scarsdale with no Con Edison crews for four days after the 2012 super-storm, as experienced before in March of 2010, and following the storms in  summer of 2011. We have made proposals for crew management, customer service management with better information available, and long term discussion of underground systems for Scarsdale.

On Thursday night, (January 24,) we are meeting with the members of the Board of Education, to discuss an agenda that includes the revaluation update, and homestead provisions of revaluation, that may change the tax position of condominium apartments in Scarsdale. Other topics are shared security issues, and improvement of communications redundancies in emergencies.

Next Monday, (January 28,) we will have a Personnel Committee meeting to discuss Boards and Councils procedures, including more public scheduling of (Boards and Council) meetings, and other matters including personnel needs for the upcoming committee service term, which begins in April 2013.
