Scarsdale Board of Education Meeting Tonight: Sewage Issues at SHS and Gift Donations

The Scarsdale Board of Education is meeting tonight at 8:00 p.m. at Scarsdale High School.

The is meeting tonight and the agenda includes fixing a sewage problem at the high school, accepting donations from the Edgewood PTA and reviewing the district Code of Conduct and Safety Plan.

The BOE is expected to vote on a resolution "declaring emergency conditions at Scarsdale High School" regarding sewer line repairs, according to tonight's agenda.

In a memo to Superintendent Michael McGill, Linda Purvis, assistant superintendent for business and facilities, stated that on Wednesday, May 30, the school discovered a "major sewer line in the 1918 wing of Scarsdale High School" was blocked.

Access to sinks and bathrooms in that area were shut off, she noted, and the facilities staff worked to determine the cause of the block.

A specialized contractor is needed to do to the repairs, due to the building's age, she said in the memo. Repairs could exceed $35,000, Purvis stated.

"Since it is imperative that a quick solution be found to restore access to water, we will not be able to take the time needed for bidding," she stated.

Also on tonight's agenda, Superintendent McGill is asking the BOE to approve a $25,810 donation to the from the Edgewood PTA.

The gift will be used to purchase several items, some of which are: new smartboards, two iPads, three digital cameras, three webcams and audio equipment for the gym and lunchrooms, according to a memo.
