Scarsdale Students Collecting Thanksgiving Donations

The students at Greenacres School are collecting canned goods this week to donate to the local food bank for the holidays.

The students at Greenacres School are giving thanks and giving back this Thanksgiving week.

The 19 sections of elementary school children, in Kindergarten through fifth grade, are collecting boxes of canned goods to donate to the Salvation Army's Westchester food bank.

PTA President Melissa Berridge said that the orginial plan had been to send the canned goods to Hurricane Sandy victims in New York. However, the Salvation Army told her they were overrun with donations.

Instead, Greenacres will donate the canned goods to the Salvation Army's local Westchester food bank, Berridge said.

"They will go to the local food bank to stock the shelves for Thanksgiving and the holidays," she said.
