Social Media, Computers and Photography at Scarsdale Adult School

Scarsdale Adult School offers courses for those seeking to learn more about networking on the web. “Making Sense of Social Media” with Katie Schlientz returns to SAS for those seeking instruction on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr, and more for personal or business use. This two-session $70 class meets Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. starting tonight, Oct. 2.

Victoria Free Presser, the public information officer for Scarsdale School District, will lead “You're on LinkedIn . . . Now What?” New to the adult school, Presser will cover the basics of setting up an account and creating a profile, sharing links, organizing connections, joining groups, and conducting research using this free networking tool. The $70 class meets on two consecutive Thursdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. starting Oct. 4.

“Workplace Computer Skills” is an eight-session comprehensive $275 class designed for those seeking to improve their computer literacy in the entire suite of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). The course meets on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. commencing Oct. 1. For those entering a paperless era, SAS offers “The Google Suite – Wow!” Cory Merchant will cover Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Picasa and more to help students master these free online applications. This three-session $105 course meets Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. starting Oct. 15.

SAS also offers classes in photography for simple home use or to support a developing hobby. Thursday evening Photoshop I and II cover the popular Adobe program widely used for improving family pictures, image formatting, web design, and business logos. Monday evening “Digital Photography for Beginners” covers the fundamentals of point-and-shoot digital cameras while Monday evening “Advanced Digital Photography” is for the student who is fully computer literate and seeks to improve his technique using a single lens reflex camera.
