Westchester Community College To Debut Upgrades

The Valhalla campus of the county college is unveiling the results of a $19 million renovation Wednesday.

Westchester Community College is holding a gala reopening event to welcome students to their new environmentally friendly Student Center Building following a two-year, $19 million renovation and expansion. The reopening event, on Wednesday, February 6 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., will feature a performance by Hip Hop violinist Svet, free refreshments and tours of the revamped structure.

The building was expanded by approximately 9,000 square feet and now features a new cafeteria, coffee bar, classrooms, expanded student lounge space, new offices, and state-of-the-art Culinary Arts space including labs for students in this academic program. Other features include a meditation room and expanded special event space.

The building expanded to 57,826 square feet through this project by Perkins Eastman (architect,) The LiRo Group (construction managers) and Worth Construction (general contractors.) The building, which has an environmentally friendly design, has a new computer controlled HVAC system which increases efficiency. The heating system was converted from oil to dual fuel boilers which will save the college thousands of dollars over the life of the new equipment.
