January 27 - The Wonder of Winter Birds-
Ever wonder how birs survive in the winter, where they come from or go? Why
they are so big or small? We will observe our bird haven feeder station and
maybe a short hike to find as many different birds as we can and talk about
their ability to survive in the winter cold, which ones stay in NY and if not
where do they go? Each child will get to take home a pinecone bird feeder.
March 8 - Mammals -We will take a journey
through the woods to find traces of mammals...Deer, fox & squirrel are just
a few fury creatures that are lurking through the woods. This afternoon will be
filled with mammal games, crafts and the mammals that live in the Weinberg
March 13 - Under the Sea & Ocean Life - What
is that sea shell? What do horseshoe crabs look like? What is a seastar?
Well... we will explore invertebrates, mammals & fish of the Atlantic ocean
by watching a brief video and meeting some of theese very creatures which come
from long island sound.
March 14 - Rocks, Minerals & Geology - Did
you know pencil graphite is a mineral? Granite countertops were once liquid
magma and Diamonds are the hardest rock on earth! This day is dedicated to
everything rocks & minerals, we will explore our collection of over 100
specimens from around the world.
March 23 - Back in Time: Dinosaurs & Fossils - We
will take a journey through millions of years to talk about different dinosaurs
and how we came to know about them today. We will look for fossils and make our
very own fossil to take home.
May 18 - Creepy Crawlies - Invertebrates are
animals that have no back bones, spiders, insects, worms & more. This
afternoon we try to find as many different types of creepy crawlies by flipping
logs (and putting them back of course). We will also get to meet & greet a
giant millipede, walking sticks, hissing cockroaches & more!
May 25 - The Great Reptile & Amphibian Hunt – We will take a journey through the
wetlands of Weinberg on a mission to find as many different types of reptiles
and amphibians as possible. We will play a turtle and a frog game and meet the
many reptiles and amphibians of Weinberg.
