Scarsdale Athletes Take Part in Maccabiah Games

Two Scarsdale athletes will take part in the 19th annual Maccabiah Games in Israel. The Games are the world's largest Jewish athletic competition in the world. There are more than 30 sports that individuals compete in during the Maccabiah Games. Scarsdale's Jacob Berkowitz will be competing in wrestling, Shelby Zucker will be competing in basketball, and Emily Knapp will take part in the field hockey competition. 

The Maccabiah Games are held every four years. The first event was held in 1932. The Games were conceived by a 15-year-old who was inspired by the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games. Israeli citizens and non-citizen who are Jewish can compete in the Games.
