Abinanti Seeks Independent Review of Parkway Entrances/Exits

Assemblyman Tom Abinanti (92nd AD) has requested that the New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner form an independent task force, including a mix of experts and motorist organizations, to evaluate the configuration of and signage at entranceways and exits of Westchester’s parkways.

“There has been a spate of wrong-way drivers and there still are oversized commercial vehicles on our Westchester parkways,” said Assemblyman Abinanti.  “We need a concerted effort to deter wrong-way drivers and trucks from entering our Westchester parkways.”

Abinanti noted that the configuration of some parkway entrances and exits is confusing and that signage is either not helpful or non-existent. He also recognized that sometimes wrong-way drivers are impaired drivers and the Department of Transportation must do everything to protect innocent drivers.

“We need an independent review to determine whether exits should be reconfigured, signs should be changed or added and other traffic control devises installed,” said the Westchester Assemblyman.
