A Fun Event for Girls and Their Dolls

The Junior League of Central Westchester is hosting an American Girl Fashion Show in March to help raise money to support the JLCW's children's programs.

The Junior League of Central Westchester is combining forces with the popular brand American Girl to bring the American Girl Fashion Show experience to Westchester.

Using the American Girl motto, "Follow your inner star," the JLCW is giving every little girl in Scarsdale the chance to either be a model or to enjoy a glamorous and fun fashionable tea, lunch or brunch on March 20 and 21 at Doral Arrowwood in Rye Brook. The fashion show is also serving as a fundraiser to support the JLCW's children's programs.

The JLCW hosts a number of charitable events throughout the year to help raise money. This is the first time the organization has decided to present the American Girl Fashion Show, due in no small part to the many little fans among family and friends. They have full confidence in the excitement the fashion show will stir.

"By working with American Girl, we are able to raise additional money for our children's programs while providing a fun-filled afternoon for the many local families who are fans of American Girl," explained Stacey Schutzer, JLCW's American Girl Fashion Show committee co-chair.

The American Girl Fashion Show will include local models and their American Girl dolls dressed in matching historical and contemporary fashions provided by American Girl. Some of the show's clothing will resemble what the popular American Girl characters Kaya, Felicity, Josefina, Addy, Rebecca, Kit, Molly, and Julie might have worn, in addition to contemporary "Just Like You" outfits and sweet Bitty Baby fashions.

Young girls will have three opportunities to see the show. Guests can choose from the Saturday brunch, the Sunday lunch or the Sunday tea times. The brunch (Saturday at 10 a.m.) includes scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, fruit, assorted pastries, and bagels. The lunch and tea times (Sunday lunch at 11:00am, Saturday tea at 2 p.m., and Sunday tea at 3 p.m.) include assorted sandwiches, fruit, cookies, tarts and cupcakes.

Attendees will also have the option of pampering their favorite American Girl at the doll hair salon with hairstyling donated by Snip-Its.

During the fashion show, the girls will learn how clothing has evolved over the years to reflect history, culture and  individual styles of girls. The fashion historical timeline will tie into the American Girl characters' stories. The show will also illustrate how fashion can serve as a way to express personal unique personalities.

Since the summer of 2009, the JLCW have been working tirelessly to plan this intricate and colorful event. Co-chairs Stacey Schutzer and Patti Schwartz are working alongside a team of 11 to orchestrate and execute all the details that goes into recruiting models and sponsors, organizing the fashion show logistics, ordering food, and collecting raffle prizes and gift bags.

"Approximately 1,000 girls and their families are expected to attend this exciting event. We expect at least one-third of the attendees to be children," said Schutzer. "Children will receive a special gift bag provided by American Girl, which includes a scrapbook, stickers, a star bracelet and a mini magazine."
