Get Your Child To Give….His Old Uniform

My hat goes off, and into a box for this charity.

Its hard to believe, but the end of our baseball season is almost here.  There is a new way to extend the life of those old team jerseys!!

In a letter sent to players and parents, here are the details:

At your last game or team get together, coaches will collect uniform jerseys from their players.  Just remember to bring an extra T-shirt to change into.  For players who also want to donate socks, pants or hats, there are collection boxes at Heathcote School, Scarsdale Middle School (in the Fountain House Office), and Planit Sports at the Golden Horseshoe.  The location of any additional collection boxes will be posted on the Double Play Foundation's website, www.doubleplayfoundation.org.  And, please feel free to contribute any older uniforms that are probably still sitting around in the back of a closet!

If you can believe, The Double Play Foundation was formed by Ben Ulene when he was only in the 8th grade.

Here are some facts from the charities website:

When he was in 7th grade, he did a project on Albert Pujols as part of his Spanish class. During the course of the project, Ben learned about Mr. Pujols' extensive charitable activities, including his work in the Dominican Republic.

Around the same time, Ben discovered a stack of old Little League uniforms in his closet. Thinking of Mr. Pujols, Ben decided to find a way to put his uniforms back to use.

The Double Play Foundation was incorporated in December 2009, and submitted Form 1023 to the Internal Revenue Service in early 2010.

The Foundation is currently helping the Scarsdale Little League (SLL) organize its first ever uniform collection drive. Ben plans to travel to the Dominican Republic in August 2010 to distribute all of the uniforms collected by SLL and the Foundation.
