Scarsdale Siren Wins $1,000 Scholarship in Miss America Preliminary

Scarsdale resident Alyse Zwick wins Preliminary $1,000 Scholarship in Lifestyles and Fitness.

Miss New York Alyse Zwick, the 24-year-old Scarsdale resident, was declared one of the three preliminary winners in the swimsuit Lifestyles and Fitness category on Thursday morning.

She joined the winners circle Wednesday night, after winning a $1,000 scholarship.

A third preliminary winner is scheduled to be named tomorrow morning, after tonight's preliminaries.

Zwick is a 2004 graduate of Pebblebrook High School - in Cobb County, GA - who attended CUNY School of Professional Studies.

Her goal is to earn a Masters degree in Fine Arts and become an award-winning actress.

Her talent is ballet "en point." She said her teacher Miss Reeves was always pushing her to do her best. Zwick was was crowned Miss New York in June 2009.

Her honors include being named to the Dean's List all semesters, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and a recipient of four-year talent scholarship to Wright State University.

Her platform in the Miss America pageant is Heroes: Helping Give Veterans Their Lives Back.

The pageant will be broadcast Jan. 30 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the TLC network.
