Scarsdale To Celebrate World Cultures With First International Fair

This weekend, Scarsdale will celebrate the cultures that comprise an increasingly interconnected global landscape at its first International Fair.

China, Brazil, Russia, Sweden, Uraguay, Japan, England, Israel, South Korea, Pakistan.

What do all of these countries have in common? Indeed, they all have diverse, rich, and vibrant cultures.

Local volunteers representing these countries, along with 26 others, will be displaying aspects of their respective cultures at Scarsdale Schools' very first International Fair this Sunday, April 25 from noon to 4p.m. at the high school.

The district's Multicultural Committees decided that, in light of the earthquakes that devastated Haiti and Chile earlier this year, all proceeds from the event will go toward the American Red Cross' efforts at helping survivors.

Each country's booth will have music, dancing, arts and crafts, games, food tastings, and other activities.

The fair is reflective of the school district's Interdiscipline Institute's initiatives to provide students with an education that reflects an increasingly globalized landscape. The fair is an extension of the Institute's highlighting in the academic realm students' "role in an interdependent world where new skills and abilities are essential."

The following is a summary of the day's events, courtesy of the fair's organizers:
