“Our goal is to expand our membership by being welcoming and inclusive,” she said.  “We have members from 28 communities….as far as Rockland, New York City and even India and Italy. Come check us out and bring a friend. We truly have something for everyone!”

New members learn about the many ways to get involved at new member luncheons. They learn about the club and its sections, which include art, American home, community affairs, garden, literature, Mediterranean culture, music, travel and pottery. The club offers lectures, concerts, workshops and trips. Annual events such as the holiday open house and the rhododendron festival are enjoyed by all.

The evening division offers similar opportunities for enrichment to those unable to attend daytime programs.

Wednesday club days are free and open to the public. Typically these include a section event and a traditional tea at the National Register of Historic Places clubhouse.

Funds to support 25 charities are raised primarily through the club’s thrift section, which sorts and prices donations for sale at the Thrift Shop in White Plains Inc. and at special club events. And for more than 50 years, the club’s unique Operation Bookshelf has collected and shipped over 2 million books to schools, hospitals, prisons and other nonprofit organizations worldwide.

The Scarsdale Woman’s Club began in 1915 as a civic organization to support first the Suffrage movement and then the American Red Cross during the First World War. It was incorporated in 1918 and has sponsored or supported many ongoing civic programs. Among them are the Scarsdale Library, Alzheimer’s Association, Grace Soup Kitchen and the Girl Scouts.
