WJCS Honors Maestro Bischof For Fundraising Efforts

Scarsdale resident Justin Bischof was recently honored by the Westchester Jewish Community Services.

Scarsdale resident Justin Bischof, Music Director at St. James the Less in Scarsdale and the Canadian Chamber Orchestra of New York City (CCO/NYC), was recently honored by Westchester Jewish Community Services for raising funds to send local children to camp.

In 2007 Maestro Bischof, former Conductor at Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale, along with Dorothy Yewer of Scarsdale, founded the Transforming the Lives of Children through Music Concert, an annual event that brings together different religious groups and the CCO/NYC musical groups to benefit children from Amazing Afternoons, an after-school program sponsored by WJCS at Edward Williams School in Mount Vernon. To date, they have raised more than $215,000 to send some 300 Mt. Vernon children to summer camp. Maestro Bischof was recognized for his efforts at an Ice Cream Social at WJCS Headquarters in White Plains where he was serenaded by many of the children who have attended camp thanks to his efforts.

“The concert has truly taken on a life of its own,” said Maestro Bischof. “I don’t know who gets more out of the event – the children who get to attend camp, the musicians who donate their services, the members of the religious communities who sponsor the concert, or the audience. Music is truly a transforming force in the world.”
