Matt Nandin slams 3-run homer for Rockland, but Capitales rally to take 7-3 win.
Matt Nandin crashed a three-run homer and Bobby Blevins fanned six but the host Quebec les Capitales rallied to take a 7-3 victory over the Rockland Boulders in the 2012 Can-Am League season opener at Le Stade Municipal Thursday night. Nandin’s shot in the third put the Boulders in front, but the defending champs posted a decisive three-run sixth and added a pair in the eighth to take home the win. Quebec broke through in the first on Blevins with a two-out rally, as Sebastian Boucher’s double and Rene Leveret’s single plated the first run of the season. "It was a back-and-forth game," Pearl River Head Coach Laurie Mayernik said. "The girls really played hard for the win." Jessica Mayernik scored three goals and goalie Delia White made eight saves for the Pirates. Gabby Suez scored five goals and Carly Cintron added four for Edgemont. The Lymphoma Research Foundation will host its 2012 Golf Invitational at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale.
The golfers playing at Quaker Ridge on Monday will be putting for a cause. The Lymphoma Research Foundation is holding its annual Golf Invitational at the Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale on May 21. This is the first time the event is being held at the club. "Prior to this year the event has changed locations each year, but since this year’s event is doing so well, it has already raised more than $200,000, the plan is to make it an annual invitational event in Scarsdale at the Quaker Ridge Golf Club," Peggy Ann Torney, senior manager of public affairs at the Lymphoma Research Foundation, said. Anyone who watched a Major League Baseball game yesterday may have realized something a little off with the player’s equipment. Rather then using the traditional brown or black Louisville Slugger baseball bats players across the country stood in the batter’s box with a piece of pink lumber. The bats are part of the MLB’s tradition to raise awareness for breast cancer and to raise funds to someday find a cure. The players started using pink bats in 2006 and yesterday players and other on field personnel wore pink ribbons and wristbands during games. After players get a chance to sign their game used bats …

An Arizona high school baseball team forfeited a game to avoid playing against a girl.
The National League was founded in February of 1876, and since the senior circuit kicked off baseball in this country women have gained equal rights and made a huge impact on the sports landscape both in the United States and abroad. Recently a story came out of Arizona where Our Lady of Sorrows Academy forfeited a state championship game, refusing to play Mesa Prep solely because the team’s starting second basemen is a girl. Mesa Prep is a Phoenix high school and the school does not have a softball team, so Paige Sulzbach, a 15-year-old girl decided to try her hand in baseball. Not only did Sulzbach make the team but she is the squad’s starting second basewoman. Out of respect for Our Lady of Sorrows, Sulzbach sat out during Mesa Prep’s …
Fans look for special items, meet former players at Westchester County Center.
Baseball card collectors mingled with hockey card fans as they walked the aisles looking at tables of collectible sports memorabilia at the Baseball Card and Sports Memorabilia Show at the Westchester County Center in White Plains on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Others stood in line to get autographs from former big-league players who smiled, shook hands and posed for pictures as fans recollected their favorite moments with the former athletes.
