Five Things You Need to Know in Scarsdale: SBNC Seeks Candidates, Ski Trips for Teenagers

A round-up of news, activities and meetings around and about town.

1. The School Board Nominating Committee by voters, and now they're seeking candidates for nomination to fill the seats of Mary Beth Gose and Lewis Leone, Jr. on Scarsdale's Board of Education. Potential nominees should complete a biographical information form and email it to sbncchair@gmail.com no later than Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. Forms can be found on the SBNC's website, as well as at Village Hall, the library or the main offices of the seven schools. Candidates must be over 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, a Scarsdale resident and a qualified voter in the Scarsdale school district for at least one year prior to May 15, 2012. 

2. The JCC of Mid-Westchester is offering  today from 4-4:45 p.m. Single classes cost $20, and bulk registration for a series of classes running through Feb. 28 is $144 (annual registration fee may be applicable). Participants are asked to wear exercise clothing and bring a watter bottle. More information is available on the JCC's website.  

3. The Board of Trustees will meet tonight in Village Hall at 8 p.m. Members of the public are invited to attend the session and speak during designated floor times.

4. The Recreation Department is offering a ski trip to Jiminy Peak on Sunday, Feb. 12 for high schoolers. Registration is due by Feb. 5, so sign up on the Department's website in order to ensure that your skis don't collect dust before spring even arrives. For more information, call 914-722-1160.  

5. If you can't get your kids to eat their broccoli, maybe you should try melting cheese on top of it. Done that already? Then you may need the JCC of Mid-Westchester's help. The JCC will present "Healthy Family, Healthy Kids," a nutrition workshop featuring local health and nutrition professionals, at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
