Five Things You Need to Know Today: Jeans Needed for Teens, Volunteer for the Committee for Historic Preservation

A roundup of news, activities and information for Tuesday, Jan. 31.

1. Scarsdale's Committee for Historic Preservation made headlines in 2011 after several notable homes, including the Duck Pond Road mansion and the Robert Purdy home, faced demolition last spring. Now, the Committee's seeking a village resident interested in filling a current opening. The application form is available for completion online

2. The Scarsdale Teen Center is  to raise awareness and jean donations for homeless teens until Feb. 12. Get involved by swinging by Havana JeansBeginnings Boutique or  in Dobbs Ferry. There, you can create an outfit featuring your favorite jean fit and take a picture of your ensemble for the chance to win a prize. Other ways to engage in the contest include donating old or new denim, which you'll be thanked for by receiving a discount on your next Aeropostale pants purchase. Find out more contest details by visiting the Teen Center'swebsite or calling 914-722-8358.

3. The League of Women Voters of Scarsdale is seeking high school applicants to participate in the 12th annual Students Inside Albany Conference, which will take place from March 25-28. One chosen student will have all expenses paid and travel to Albany to learn about New York State government and policymaking with youths across the state. Other activities will include touring the Capitol and spending an afternoon shadowing legislators. For an application or more information, contact Pamela Fuehrer, Scarsdale League of Women Voters, at 914-472-9440 or pfuehrer@optonline.net. Application forms are available at the Scarsdale League of Women Voters’ website and due by January 11.
