Five Things You Need to Know Today: Brooke Shields, Monoprints and Meetings, Meetings, Meetings!

It's Monday, and Scarsdale Patch is giving you five bits of information that will hopefully help you start off your week with a bang... or at least a small spark.

1. Brooke Shields was in Scarsdale last Friday! Check back with Patch later for more details on what the starlet was doing in Village proper – and why she was spotted at Chat American Grill.

2. The semester’s almost over, the 2011-12 budget was passed and the School Board candidates were elected – but that doesn’t mean the Board of Education is done for the year. Tonight, the Board will be meeting at 8 p.m. in Room 170-172 at Scarsdale High School. Agenda items include an Annual review of the District's Code of Conduct, the District Safety Plan and any proposed changes for the code and the plan. Members of the public are invited to attend and speak at designated times.

3. If you get more worked up over tax caps, Heathcote Five Corners and saving Scarsdale’s historic buildings than you do over School Board issues, attend tonight’s Scarsdale Neighborhood Association Presidents (S.N.A.P.) meeting at Village Hall. Beginning at 8 p.m., the meeting will update attendees on  Neighborhood Character/Historic Preservation, construction on Heathcote Five Corners/Weaver Street- Jeff Watiker, downtown projects and how tax caps will impact Village budgets.

4. Before you hear the pounding of hammers and the droning of drills emanating from your neighbor’s half-constructed sunroom, take it into consideration that the Board of Architectural Review (B.A.R.) has already reviewed the blueprints, discussed the plans with the site’s owners and determined how the new room’s appearance will fit the surrounding neighborhood’s architectural aesthetic. Tonight, witness the B.A.R. in action when they meet in Village Hall at 8 p.m. to discuss wetlands permits, home additions and proposed amendments to the Village Zoning Code relative to the provision of Fair and Affordable Housing at 7:30 p..

5. Duck into a cool art gallery to escape from the muggy, late spring air – and, of course, to take in the works of local artists Laura Clark, Eileen Kleinman and Melinda Tepler. Inspired by the nuances of shared vision, the three women describe their works as “several hours a week of connection, conversation and production,” with “colors and shapes that bloom from the paper, often in series, [and] illustrate both unique single creation and a shared spark. The exhibit is displayed at the Marjorie and Norman Alexander Gallery at the JCC of Mid-Westchester until June 30. For more information, visit the JCC’s website, call (914) 472-3300 or email blusteinc@jccmw.org.
